Ruth Lee Duty GEN2 Rescue Training Manikins
Ruth Lee Duty rescue manikins provide realistically weighted casualties for
fire, EMS, technical rescue and emergency-response training. Available in sizes
ranging from an 11 lb infant through a 198 lb adult, the Duty
range allows instructors to select a simulated casualty appropriate for the
scenario and physical challenge being trained.
These rugged manikins are designed for exercises such as casualty handling,
confined-space rescue, vehicle extrication, search and rescue, HAZMAT/CBRN
training and general emergency evacuation.
Realistic Weight Distribution
Ruth Lee Duty manikins are weighted to approximate human body proportions,
giving rescuers a more realistic impression of moving an unconscious casualty.
Unlike a rigid training weight, the articulated body creates many of the
handling challenges encountered when lifting, dragging, carrying or positioning
a person during rescue operations.
Heavy-Duty Construction
The Duty range uses a durable, water-repellent polyester outer material with
reinforced seams and high-strength webbing. Ruth Lee uses material comparable
to that found in protective ballistic and stab-resistant equipment, providing
high abrasion resistance for repeated rescue training.
Soft body joints reduce the pinching and bruising that can occur with rigid
plastic-bodied training manikins.

Fire, EMS & Technical Rescue Training
The Ruth Lee Duty range can support a variety of casualty-handling exercises,
including:
- Fire and rescue training
- Confined-space rescue
- Vehicle extrication
- Urban search and rescue
- HAZMAT / CBRN exercises
- Casualty evacuation
- Stretcher and immobilization practice
- Pole-top and technical rescue scenarios
- Team lifting and manual-handling practice
Protective Clothing
Ruth Lee Duty manikins are supplied with protective coveralls. Models weighing
44 lb and above also include secured lug-sole boots.
The clothing is intended to help protect the manikin body and should be treated
as a consumable component. Replace worn or damaged clothing before excessive
abrasion reaches the main manikin body.
Important Temperature & Water Limitations
Ruth Lee states that standard Duty manikins can withstand temperatures up to
approximately 100°C (212°F). For flash-over training
or environments above this temperature, use a purpose-built
Ruth Lee Fire House Manikin.
Standard Duty manikins are also not intended for deep-water rescue
training. Their normal weight distribution does not provide the
appropriate behavior in water. Use a purpose-built Ruth Lee Water Rescue
Manikin for aquatic scenarios.
Frequently Asked Questions
What sizes are available?
The Ruth Lee Duty range is available from an 11 lb infant through a 198 lb
adult, allowing instructors to simulate casualties of different sizes and
weights.
What is the most common adult size?
Ruth Lee identifies the 50 kg / 110 lb Adult and 70 kg / 154 lb Adult as
popular configurations. The appropriate weight depends on the type of rescue
exercise and physical challenge required.
Can Ruth Lee Duty manikins be used for water rescue?
Not for deep-water rescue. Ruth Lee recommends its dedicated Water Rescue
manikins for aquatic training because they are designed to behave appropriately
in the water.
Can these manikins be used in structural fire training?
They can be used in temperatures up to approximately 100°C (212°F).
For flash-over or higher-temperature fire training, Ruth Lee recommends the
Fire House range.
Can an immobilization collar be used?
Adult Duty manikins are designed to accommodate many common
immobilization/extrication collars for casualty-care practice.
Is the rear webbing loop a drag handle?
No. It is intended for positioning the manikin, hauling it into place,
storage and suspension for drying rather than normal casualty dragging.
