Philips HeartStart Giving Program

The HeartStart Giving Program has been created to support early defibrillation programs in places where people live, work and play. The program supports every facet of a complete AED deployment including educational programs, training, and implementation services for organizations that cannot support these needs on their own. The program also aims to help communities that have limited access to EMS, which is defined as response time greater than 10 minutes.

Areas of Focus

Public Access Defibrillation: Strengthen the Chain of Survival by supporting public access defibrillation programs. Examples include:

  • Programs to educate the public on sudden cardiac arrest and the need for early defibrillation
  • CPR/AED training programs
  • Equipment and supplies to support educational and training programs
  • AEDs for use by lay responders in PAD programs

Communities: Improve the communities where we live and work. Examples include:

  • Provide AEDs to worthy causes, such as schools, community centers, houses of worship
  • Excite our employees to contribute to organizations that improve people’s health or make our communities more livable
  • Encourage employee participation and support of the communities in which they live and work

Giving Priorities: Philips gives priority to vulnerable populations and those who serve them. Examples include:

  • Limited ability to raise funds, e.g., 100% of funding is from donations, located in an economically depressed area
  • Identified risk of Sudden Cardiac Arrest
  • Lack of adequate access to EMS services

Program Restrictions

In order to maintain focus and achieve greater impact, Philips does not support the following:

  • Research projects
  • Organizations or programs that preclude participation or involvement based on criteria such as race, color, age, gender, national origin, sexual orientation, or disability
  • Home schools
  • Political organizations
  • Advertisements, conferences, seminars, contests, auctions, or fundraising activities
  • Agencies that practice or promote partisan or legally defined discriminatory policies
  • Programs with significant support from the United Way
  • Privately operated child day care facilities
  • For-profit enterprises

Size of Grants

Requests for Philips’ Cardiac & Monitoring Systems equipment are limited to a maximum value of $30,000.
